FLARA STATE CONVENTION JUNE 12-14, 2005

It is a pleasure to invite all 3100 APWU of Florida State Retiree Chapter union dues paying Retiree members, Retiree delegates, active APWU dues paying officers and members, and family members to the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA) 2005 Annual Convention and Quarterly Board of Directors meeting to be held on Sunday, June 12 thru Tuesday, June 14, 2004 at the HOLIDAY INN-DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, 3209 South Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach Shores, FL 32118. Your departure check-out date is on Wednesday, June 15, 2005.

The Holiday Inn-Daytona Beach Shores hotel room rate for FLARA members is $69.95 per night for single or double room, plus 12.5 % taxes. Please note the hotel cutoff date for room reservations is May 24, 2005. Any reservations made after this cutoff date CANNOT be guaranteed at our group rate. The registration fee for the Convention is $80.00 per person. Any registered delegate wishing to bring a guest to the prepaid meals should register their guest at $60.00 each. Many well known political and union leaders are invited to attend this annual event. Resolutions will be offered to oppose the Privatization of the Social Security Program entitlements for all Americans. Go to

At this Convention, in addition to the election of Officers and Board Members, any proposed changes to the FLARA Constitution and By-Laws will be discussed and voted upon by the convention body. It is important that all Board Members, Club, and Individual members be in attendance for this discussion and action. If you wish to submit a proposed change to the By-Laws, they must be received at the FLARA Offices no later than 30 days prior to the Convention. APWU is one of 22 unions affiliated with FLARA!

All FLARA club/chapter dues must be current in order for clubs/chapters to have proper voting status. If you have not sent in your chapter or individual dues, please do so immediately. NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR RETIRED AMERICANS LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE, WASHINGTON, D.C.

A National Legislative Conference has been scheduled by the National Alliance for Retired Americans, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 7 thru Friday, Sept. 9, 2005 at the Hilton Washington and Towers Union Hotel , 1919 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20009. Hotel room rates $142.00 night plus 14.5 % taxes, and are guaranteed until July 20, 2005. Check-in time is 3 pm, and check-out time is 12 noon. Hotel reservations should be made by calling the Hilton Washington and Towers directly toll-free at 1-888-324-4586.

The Conference registration early bird fee is $75.00, if received by July 20, 2005. After that date, the registration fee is $90.00. A Banquet featuring a noted personality is set for Thurs., Sept. 8 at 6 pm. Banquet tickets are $65.00 person and should be ordered with the registration form. Tickets will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. You will receive your tickets when you arrive at the Conference. All 3100 APWU of Florida State Retiree Chapter Members, Clubs, Individual Members, and Family Members are invited to join the National Alliance for Retired Americans (NARA) to examine all the key legislative issues before Congress. You will hear from Members of Congress, Community and Labor Leaders about their plans surrounding these issues. There will be expert panelists’ on senior issues, informative break out sessions, and Lobby Day on Capitol Hill when Members of Congress hear directly from you about these paramount issues. It’s time to march in the streets again!!

Come and hear Members of Congress and key figures in debates on Social Security, Medicare, Prescription Drugs, Pensions, and the Privatization of the U.S. Postal Service. Only senior friendly legislation will ensure you have the quality of life you deserve after a lifetime of hard work, and only the wisdom and action of seniors can convey the importance of these issues to our Congress, their children and grandchildren, as well as your family.
