Charles R Redd

February 09, 1936 - June 04, 2013
Our beloved Charles Redd, age 77, went home to be with the Lord on June 4, 2013 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born to Allen and Ethel Redd on February 9, 1936 in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated January 1954 from Andrew Jacksonville High School where he played on the State Championship Basketball Team during 1954 through 1957. He won a scholarship and played for Jacksonville Junior College during 1955/1956 and 1956/1957; during that time he played in the National Junior College Tournament at Hutchinson, Kansas. He received his Associates Arts Degree in 1957 from Jacksonville Junior College. He was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States in November of 1962.
Charlie was a charter member of the North Merritt Island Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He seldomly missed an opportunity to sing a solo with his booming bass voice.
Charlie enjoyed life so much. The family holidays, his class reunions and trips to the National APWU conventions. He was a member of the Savannahs Golf Association; golf was one of his favorite sports along with basketball, football, and tennis. A member of the Postal Service Union AFL-CIO where he served as the President of the Florida APWU for six years. President of the Space Coast Area Local for 30 years. Charlie was a very dedicated Union representative. A member of the Moose Lodge 2073 enjoyed the dancing on Friday nights , the Mason Lodge 113 and the Space Trackers Square Dance Club.
Seven years ago he became a vegan joining the Healthy Plant of Brevard and the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii, which he truly believed prolonged his quality of life by eating a plant based diet.
Surviving his death, his loving wife, Beverly Redd. His wonderful family, daughters Terri (michael) Brooks of Baldwin FL, Malissa (Gaylen) Williams of Sanderson, FL; stepsons Rob O'Brien of Cocoa FL, Jon O'Brien of Fernandina Beach FL; his sister Frances Granlund of Jacksonville, FL. The grandchildren; Deanna Bernath, Michelle Williams, Steve O'Brien;the William's boys, Dalton, Dylen, and Devin. The great grandchildren; Destin delaSerno, Mahlyah Williams, and Haven O'Brien. Many nephews, nieces and other relatives.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; Allen Redd, Ethel Redd, stepson Stephen O'Brien and his first wife, Florence Van Al Stine Redd.
Charlie was a wonderful and fun loving Dad, Papa, Pepa, uncle and friend. He was loved and admired by many. He will be missed immensely by everyone who knew him. Rest in Peace, Oh, Faithful Servant, YO!
