2005 FLORIDA SUNCOAST RETIREE CHAPTER 7-YEAR REVIEW!

FLORIDA SUNCOAST RETIREE CHAPTER CELEBRATES SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY MILESTONE WITH A REVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION AND MANY EXCITING EVENTS SINCE 1998!

The Florida Suncoast Retiree Chapter, Suncoast Area Local, APWU #1228, AFL-CIO was chartered on Nov. 19, 1998 by the National APWU President, Moe Biller, and Sec.-Treas., Bob Tunstall, in response to the greatest turnout of Retirees ever seen by the Local Union in the last 77 years for the formation of a Retiree Chapter.

15 APWU Retiree pioneers attended the Chapter organization meeting and luncheon on Tue., Oct. 20, 1998 at the old NALC Hall on 66th St. in Largo to hear John R. Smith, Natl. APWU Retiree Director, speak to the Retirees, and then we drove Mr. Smith to the Up County meeting in Port Richey that night, where 5 more APWU Retiree pioneers showed up.

From the beginning of our Chapter’s birth we have enjoyed the participation and teamwork of the Officers, Stewards, Members, and Office Manager Diane McDaniel, of the Suncoast Area Local and of the many Retiree Officers, Members, and Spousal/Family Member volunteers who continue to give the Chapter their support and encouragement. Thanks for the memories!

We have held Chapter meetings in 6 different locations in 5 cities, Largo, Port Richey, Clearwater, New Port Richey, and Holiday, Fl., Buddy Freddys Buffet Restaurant currently.

20 Chapter Officers, 41 other Chapter Members, 38 Family Members/Guests, 8 active Local Union Members, and 48 Invited Guest Speakers, have attended one of our Chapter meetings, a grand total of 155 persons who have signed in, a total of 740 times at 43 Chapter meetings since our beginning! Thanks, everyone!
Jack Gose, President,
Florida Suncoast Retiree Chapter, AFL-CIO
