2002 FIRST STATE RETIREE CHAPTER CONVENTION

APWU OF FLORIDA FIRST STATE RETIREE CHAPTER CONVENTION CALL TO BE HELD IN ORLANDO, FL. ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 2002

All APWU Retirees and their families are invited to the very first Founders’ APWU of Florida State Retiree Chapter Convention, AFL-CIO, to be held on Wed., May 8, 2002 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the downtown Radisson Plaza Hotel, 60 S. Ivanhoe Blvd., Orlando, Fl. 32804. This historic Retiree Convention precedes the regular Florida State APWU Convention which is scheduled in the same hotel from Thursday, May 9 thru Saturday, May 11, 2002. Florida State Retiree Chapter Resolutions will be debated and sent to the regular Florida State Convention beginning on Thursday, May 9 and the National APWU Retiree Convention to be held in Minneapolis, Minn. on Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11, 2002.

A luncheon (Dutch Treat) is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, followed by the State Retiree Chapter Convention business starting at 1:00 p.m. All active APWU dues paying members and their families and APWU Auxiliary members and their families are invited to attend all our State Retiree Chapter meetings, luncheons, and Conventions. We believe that all the APWU family members, the Active Working members, the Retiree members, and the Auxiliary members should be treated with dignity, and all of us must band together to take care of all our families.

John R. Smith, Natl. APWU Retiree Director, has been invited to speak at the Retiree Convention luncheon. He is a dynamic, energetic orator who just completed successfully a retirement class for about fifty (50) APWU of Florida members at the Jacksonville Seminar on March 15, 2002. A new generation is living in Florida, and we yearn to link the active working APWU members with the Retiree APWU members in the classroom.

A Constitution and By-Laws and a list of interim APWU of Florida State Retiree Chapter Officers were voted on by the Retiree members at the organization meeting on March 15, and they have been appointed by President Martha Shunn King of the parent state body. Both documents have been given to Director John R. Smith to help create the State Chapter. Over 2500 APWU Retiree members residing in the State of Florida pay $24.00 yearly or $2.00 monthly automatic APWU Retiree union dues to the Natl. APWU. Retirees do not have to pay any State Retiree Chapter union dues to the APWU of Florida!

Delegate credentials and registration kits will be issued at the Hotel for the first Florida State Retiree Convention due to the shortness of time for this announcement. Retirees’ registration fees have been waived for the Convention in Orlando to encourage more APWU Retiree families to attend.
